Health Professions Education: A Bridge to Quality
The Institute of Medicine study "Crossing the Quality Chasm (2001) recommended that an interdisciplinary summit be held to further reform of health professions education in order to enhance quality health education center and patient safety. "Health Professions Education: A Bridge to Quality is the follow up to that summit held in June 2002, where 150 participants across disciplines health education center and occupations developed ideas about how to integrate a core set of competencies into health professions education. These core competencies include patient-centered care, interdisciplinary teams, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, health education center and informatics. This book recommends a mix of approaches to health education improvement, including those related to oversight processes, the training environment, research, public reporting, health education center and leadership. Educators, administrators, health education center and health professionals can use this book to help achieve an approach to education that better prepares clinicians to meet both the needs of patients health education center and the requirements of a changing health care system.

Diana Garza, EdD, MT (ASCP), CLS (NCA), is Associate Research Professor health education center and Project Director for Interdisciplinary Health Care Education at Texas Woman's University, Institute of Health Sciences, in Houston, Texas. She is also an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She has published nine books, numerous journal articles, health education center and has been educating students in the health professions since1981. University of Tennessee Health Science Center - The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis is part of the statewide, multi-campus University of Tennessee system, a subdivion of the Knoxville-based University of Tennessee proper.
